Balance ease of building with long-term energy efficiency in your design. In hammer beam trusses, the braces have to mimic the pitch of your rafters, and if your rafters have too low of a pitch, you will have to design your ties to be relatively long. If the ties are too truncated, they won’t be able to accommodate the reserved pitch of the braces. This fact makes it harder to design a hammer beam truss under a roof that has a low pitch, and because of that, you want rafters with a relatively high pitch. However, the higher you make your pitch, the higher your ceiling will be, and the higher your ceiling is, the more cubic metres of space you have to heat and cool.
